Zar & Zar was founded in 1995 as a Sole Trading Company Limited by Dr. Myo Thant with an intention to import, market, and distribute medical products in Myanmar. Inspired by his experience as a physician and a public health professional, Dr. Myo Thant wanted to increase accessibility to drugs and medical equipment in Myanmar. The Company started with less than five employees with turnover volume of not more than US$ 10,000. Over twenty years, it has grown to become one of the leading distributors in the Myanmar pharmaceuticals industry with annual turnover of US$ 10 millions. With a dedicated sales and distribution team for different regions of Myanmar and representation on several healthcare industry associations, Zar & Zar has established decades-long relationships with healthcare professionals, public health institutions, and our valued customers all over the country.
In 1989, Dr. Myo Thant , our founder and Managing Director, finished his graduate studies with a Graduate Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Mahidol University in , Thailand. Shortly after, , Myanmar opened up and gradually shifted towards a market economy. In seizing the opportunity, Dr. Myo Than started his very first trading business through border trade with Thailand. He co-founded Mega Products Limited, Myanmar, which is the Branch Company of Mega Products Limited, Thailand. Following his entrepreneurial drive, he left Mega after seven7 years and started his own business in 1995, which has now grown into Zar & Zar Group of Companies.Since then, Zar & Zar Group has been distributing pharmaceutical products and medical equipment for two decades. In 2016, we expanded our product portfolio to include FMCG products, such as batteries and oral care products. As of today, we are one of the largest importers and distributors of pharmaceutical productss and consumer goods with a nation-wide distribution network, reaching all major cities in the country.
We started this company with less than ten employees more than 20 years ago. Our motto of “Quality & Quantity” remains the same today and we pledge to conduct our business in line with this statement.
Since the inception of this Company, we have distributed products that are of the highest quality while maintaining an affordable price point for our customers. Our sales and marketing efforts have led to large turnover, one of the highest brand awareness among peers in the market, and healthy returns for our business.
We also believe in giving back to our society. To do this, we share a part of our profits with our community by organizing annual corporate social responsibility activities for our employees, customers, and the healthcare professionals in our network. We do believe that our employees are the reason behind our growth and hence, we look after our employee welfare as one of our top priorities.
We are actively investing in our workforce, infrastructure, and our brands. We continue to strategically expand our product portfolio by acquiring new brands and partnerships with manufacturers. We embrace change in our organization not only in terms of upgrading hardware and software, but also in the skillsets of our people to become a modern distribution company ; while always sticking to our motto “Quality & Quantity” as our core value.
